PDF Sewing Patterns FAQS

We have a small but growing collection of PDF patterns available here.

Because of the differences between computers and printers, we can't offer specific help with downloading and printing your PDF pattern, but we have answered the most common questions here.

WHEN WILL I GET MY PATTERN?
PDF patterns will be available as soon as your payment has been successful. The download link will be available on the confirmation order page when your order is confirmed. You will also receive an email with download links. When you receive the email you can download the files to your computer. Most computers will send those files to your 'downloads' folder'.

HOW DO I VIEW MY PATTERN?
The best way to view pdf files is through Adobe Acrobat Reader. You probably already have it on your computer, but if not you can download it for free from the Adobe site. (As with all downloads, ensure you are downloading from the correct site to avoid downloading malicious software).

You will be able to view the files in your web browser, but don't print your files directly from your web browser because the measurements won't be accurate.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO FORMATS?
You will receive the files in both A4 format and A0.

A4 is the size of a normal sheet of paper that you generally use at home or in the office. A0 is a large sheet the equivalent of 16 A4 pages.

Once you have downloaded the files to your computer, you can either print the files at home or take them to your local print shop.

  • If you print the files at home, you will use the files in A4 format and then tape the A4 sheets together.
  • If you want to print them at your print shop, you can use the A0 format.

WHAT IS THE TEST SQUARE?
Do not overlook this! It is one of the most important things in getting your pattern printed correctly.

Whether you print at home or at a print shop, it is very important that you measure the test square to make sure you have the right measurements. Most test squares are 10cm x 10cm. If this box isn't right, then the rest of the pattern isn't right and you will get unexpected results.

If you are printing from home, do not print directly from your web browser as these measurements will probably be wrong. For best results print from a viewer such as Adobe Acrobat Reader.

WHAT ARE LAYERS?
Many designers include layers as a way of allowing you to print only your size. Using Adobe Reader you will be able to hide the layers (or sizes) you don't need.

HOW DO I PRINT THE PATTERN AT HOME?
You will use your normal printer. You will then need to tape the A4 sheets together (most patterns have guidance on the pieces so you know which pieces go where).

HOW DO I PRINT THE PATTERN AT THE COPY SHOP?
Depending on the shop or service you use, you will either email it to them or take it in on a usb.

CAN I PRINT THE PATTERN AGAIN?
You can store your digital files on your computer to print again. Please note, however, you can only receive the files by email once. For copyright reasons, we cannot send the files to you a second time unless you pay for the pattern again.

WHAT IF I HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY PATTERN?
If you haven't received the email with the link please check your spam folder.
